Great Construction
Opening Remarks (Chijôtengoku 5)
When we observe the times in which we live, wrongdoing in society is so widespread it is not unreasonable that statesmen raise their voices in lament. The situation could said to be simply a result of defeat in the war, but we cannot be content with this conclusion. Of course, thoughtful people will feel something has to be done, but the reality is that no ways or means can be found. That is because we can not believe that politics, education, or religion has the power to save society from the wrongdoing that actually exists. Moreover, it has not come to the point where a power of salvation from social ills can be envisioned. When we ponder these conditions, we keenly feel how important is the mission of the Japan Kannon Church, and also we recognize the unshakeable importance particularly of the role of this journal as one instrument of the church’s activities.
In this sense, we are prepared to follow divine intention, advancing on the road of exerting our best for the salvation of humanity.
