      Of course, health is the condition of what a human being without sickness and disease is called, but what I find intriguing about this obvious fact is that religious scholars and journalists hold that because the religions that put their greatest energy into curing the sick are only pursuing material benefit, they are not of a high level. Nothing is more mistaken than this idea. It should be needless to remind the people who hold to such views that there is nothing that harms and brings suffering to human life and living in society as much as sickness and disease. And when we look at society and investigate the causes for misfortune and tragedy, at the very basis is sickness and disease. Just as it is often said that behind every crime is a woman, it would be fair to state that behind tragedy are sickness and disease. It absolutely no mistake that the number of unfortunate individuals would proportionately decrease if the number of healthy individuals without sickness and disease increases. I am speaking on the individual level here, but from the perspective of the society of a nation-state as well, this is certainly not a negative factor. When all is said and done, the problem is sickness and disease.
      The motto of World Messianity is a world absolutely free of disease, poverty, conflict, but actually, if the problem of disease is resolved, the misfortunes of poverty and conflict will also be solved. This is obvious enough so as to make an explanation unnecessary, but even the problem of disease involves not only the physical body. Mental diseases are the greatest problem in the world today. Let us take the example of war. Those who start wars and those who try to prevent them differ completely. And, of course because the people who cause wars and the population that is made to follow them differ completely, the “great” guys who start wars are the worst. When we look inside the hearts of those who start wars, this is what we see. Because their ambition is so strong, they are not satisfied with what the ordinary person could accomplish, and because they are very talented, self-confident and cannot stand to hold back, unfettered ambition arises. When we observe heroes and their achievements from history, their plans went as expected, but in the end, they inevitably failed.
      As described above, the heroes of evil in efforts to accomplish their own ambitions, sacrifice a great number of human beings, so indeed they deserve no pity or compassion. Because they sacrifice the lives of many ordinary individuals and create many unfortunate people, their evil makes us shiver, and even though their actions may seem normal, no matter how much of a hero they may appear to be, they have a mental, spiritual defect so are mentally ill. Even ordinary persons who are focused on their own cleverness, who have no feelings of love or compassion are that way because they have a mental defect somewhere. An interesting aspect I have discovered from my long years of experience is that those who have a mental defect somewhere will also have physical defects. There are heroes and evil persons who are extremely healthy, and this is because they have a great amount of toxin that has solidified to an extreme degree.
     As can be understood from the above, whether it be through religion, science, philosophy, or education, it is sufficient that disease be eliminated from the human race, but actually there is nothing else but the absolute spiritual light of the Creator which I wield that has the power to cure disease.

“Kenkō wa Issai Nari,” originally published on the front page of Eikō, Issue 182, November 12, 1952, was reprinted while Meishu-sama still alive in the essays anthology for ministers Goshinsho: Shūkyōhen (Divine Writings: Volume on Religion), page 78, March 25, 1954. “Kenkō wa Issai Nari” was also reprinted in the anthology Igaku Kankei Goronbun Shū (Meishu-sama’s Collected Essays on Medical Science) that did enjoy a limited circulation. Igaku Kankei Goronbun Shū contains no publication data, but internal evidence suggests that its editing stopped several months preceding Meishu-sama’s death. Furthermore, since the book lacks publication data, whether the volume had Meishu-sama’s imprimatur or not is unknown, so details concerning this volume are probably impossible to research. “Kenkō wa Issai Nari” has previously appeared in translation.
