The Catastrophes That Are Typhoons
As all are well aware, there has not been in memory a year in which such destructive typhoons have appeared one after another. The amount of damage that has resulted to fields, paddies, roads, levees, shipping and such, not to mention human beings and animals, will be unimaginable. What is pitiful is that the response of national and local governments to these typhoons has been feeble though for the past years typhoons like those of this year have come and gone as annual events, and although policies are earnestly devised, financial limitations everywhere make it exceedingly difficult to put these policies into practice. We shudder just thinking about the anxiety which will be experienced amidst the countless typhoons that will certainly come hereafter. Anxiety and helplessness arise because the true substance of a typhoon is not understood at all. To inform all of these fundamentals I explain here. Needless to say, due to the superstition in the predominance of material science, understanding of the cause of typhoons is sought through materialistic methods. The way of thinking behind these methods are off the mark and amount to only ointment spread over a wound.
A true and permanent understanding of the cause of catastrophes which are typhoons will not be found unless the solution to the problem stems from methods based on spirit. Plans that are based on spirit recognize the true cause of typhoons and formulate measures that encompass that understanding. As I repeatedly teach, typhoons are not natural, they are human made. Typhoons occur as a consequence of the shocking ignorance in which human beings create something that makes other human beings suffer. Having said so, contemporary people will be astonished to hear this, so I detail here the true causes in the hope of waking the eyes of the general public to the truth.
This world consists of a visible world of material and an invisible world of spirit. Think of it as a hand with the outside, that is, the palm being the physical; and the inner, the back being the spiritual. The inside and the outside are a unity. In this unity, spirit predominates and the physical is subordinate, a law that applies to all, so all that appears in the physical world has been first generated in the spiritual world which then reflects to the physical world.
Therefore, because typhoons first generate in the spiritual world, it is sufficient that the causes for their generation are not formed. There is no other way to prevent typhoons. But those who do not know this principle view the issue only from the material results, much akin to medical science which treats the symptoms only and whose results are only temporary. So, what is the spiritual cause of typhoons? It is the clouding of the spiritual world. When the clouding of the spiritual world reaches a certain extent, purifying action generates naturally. This is the substance of a typhoon, so it is sufficient that cloud is not created.
For the creation of cloud in the spiritual world, attention must be given to human thought and language. Human thought which belongs to the world of evil is that such as hatred, envy, jealousy, grudges, and discontent which reflects to the spiritual world and becomes irregularities and unseasonableness. Language and deeds which belong to evil are that such as defamation, slander, libel, fraud, grumbling, and meanness or foul play, all criminal activity. Evil thought clouds the first dimension of the spiritual world while evil language and deeds cloud the second dimension of the spiritual world. These clouds are swept away through the natural generation of the purifying activity of typhoons and other such kinds of storms.
Another factor in the formation of typhoons are the entirely material causes of that such as fertilizers made from human waste and chemicals, as well as the chemicals used to kill insect pests and prevent plant diseases, all of which contaminate and defile the soil. To purify the impurities introduced by human beings, nature cleanses the soil with the water from storms.
Thus, typhoons and storms are caused by human ignorance, so it is only a matter of course that when this principle is understood, the problems from typhoons and great storms will be solved as the reasons for their causes will not be created. Catastrophes will become minor disasters and minor disasters will disappear. I declare that as this is universal truth, there will be no fundamental change unless this truth is followed.
